Michael Devine quits smoking after 42 years on the evil weed!

Wheezing when I get up in the morning. Coughing during the night. Any thought that smoking is "cool" in the distant past. I thought it might be good to see my grandchildren.

The surprising thing about going through this is the support I've gotten fron people who STILL SMOKE! Many calls while I've been on-air from people who "wish they had what I had. The strength to quit smoking." We'll, they do. You have to make up your mind you're going to do it and stick to it. Thinking about the things you'll lose if you do smoke has helped me. I decided to tell everybody I was quiting so it would be more difficult to start again. Anyway, I'm just entering my third week smoke-free, no gurantee about the future but right now I'm as determined as ever to stay off those things.

Mike,
your commit this morning about the person that said you talk to much and should play more music, reminds me of BIG RED, when he was at KWMT. People called him and said they didn't like the langauge he was using or the jokes he would tell. He said if they don't like it DON"T LISTEN to him. but they kept him on. Then they would complain again about it. So you know they liked it or they wouldn't keep listening to him. The same goes for you if they don't like it that they think you are talking to much there are other stations on the radio. have a great VET'S DAY keep up your good work, I like all the DJ's at KWMT

Good for you Mike Devine. I quit 15 yrs ago. After about 6 weeks I suddenly realized I didn't cough every morning. Everyone has their own method for getting off the weed. I kept telling myself that although I loved smoking and the smell of tobacco I CHOSE not to light up right now. A form of self hypnosis I guess, but so far it has worked and the desire to light up has left. Hang in there.
